I’ve been driving like forever in the Philippines. I don’t remember being ever so stressed out in getting the license for an exam. Though the long wait makes everything toxic. Imagine here, to get a driving permit, there’s the written test, which you really, truly need to prepare for. And then there is the ever so coveted passing the behind the wheel test. I failed the first try. I was so confident that I’m ready for Fremont, though many of my friends shared the same ill-fate of not making it. I was wrong. I committed a critical error…it’s still so vivid, because for a second I deliberated. I chose the wrong lane. Failed.๐ ๐ปโโ๏ธ
So for my second try, I went to Vacaville. The roads there are more familiar, so relatively safer…no railroad tracks, no school zones. I came in early because I had to familiarize myself with the roads, turns, speed limit, etc. It helped that the examiner exuded a mentoring feel vs. tormenting me outright. I was already super stressed out. I made 3 mistakes. I was called for those mistakes, what helped me was despite doing those, I had still the presence of mind to change lanes safely and correctly. So he said right, I thought I heard left. ๐For a moment, I feared failing again. Thank goodness, for just three mistakes! God is great! I prayed, and prayed and prayed for this.
Chic & Sassy Mom Tip 1: Prayer moves mountain. It is important that you’re calm during the test. Presence of mind, Ms. Lourdes! (I thought I heard him say). I needed to calm down and to focus.
Chic & Sassy Mom Tip 2: Watch You Tube videos. DMV has videos about the critical errors and driving guidelines.
Chic & Sassy Mom Tip 3: They really mean it, scanning is key. Check your rear-view mirror, side mirror, and physically (with strict emphasis on this action) turn your head and shoulder to check for your blind spot. Either left or right. Repeat.
I swear, it was so toxic going through it all, and I finally made it. It feels like Christmas. It’s the same feeling of elation when I first got my Korean Visa, and attended a fan meeting. Hello, California living!ย To driving to infinity and beyond… Cheers! ๐ค
