Sometime ago, I posted about my hubby’s Miles & More Frequent Traveler Membership updates. From then to now, he earned reasonable miles to actually qualify redeeming corresponding flight awards. By the way, Miles & More is Lufthansa’s Airline Program. His member airline was Lufthansa just because our first long haul flight together was in Germany.
Lufthansa is a member airline of Star Alliance. Although, we’re members of several, if not most, airline programs, just because at some point, we cannot choose our flights, especially if they’re business-related travel, and for the personal travel, we consider promo fares vs. loyalty to a specific airline program (because of the high travel tax rates to claim flight awards). Sad but practical. Anyhow, we’re traveling again in a couple of weeks, and the miles he accumulated were enough to get us domestic, round trip flight awards from Los Angeles (LAX) to Chicago (ORD). Oh happier days! *LoL And for what amount? Read on to find out, you’ll be pleasantly informed.

In Manila, to claim flight awards from Miles & More, you have to visit its office in Phinma Plaza, Rockwell Plaza, adjacent to Nestle.

Now for the fun part, LAX to ORD round trip flight is considered a domestic travel flight award. So it costed us fewer miles per person, and only (dun, dun, duuuun!)….$5 each. Winner! My hubby’s similar flight last time, just because it was book a week before, costed us $600+. Today’s rate via United Airlines is about $350+ per person. Nice, right? The only downside is United Airlines, unlike Southwest Airlines, which we also took last time, and will also be taking this time to another leg of our domestic travel, doesn’t offer free checked-in baggage allowance. So for sure, we have a baggage for checked-in, so it’s additional $25 each first checked-in baggage. Oh well! You can’t win them all!
In fairness, Philippine Airlines (PAL) will always be closer to my heart, but my goodness, it’s so hard, and so costly to claim flight awards! So, no thanks! So for the mean time, we’re mighty compelled to keep loving Miles & More/Star Alliance, I wouldn’t complain since if I’ll have my way, it’s Asiana all the way, baby! ^_^ Cheers! ^_^
